In
India Dipawali is one of the festivals celebrated by Hindus all over
India. It is considered to be an auspicious occasion in the family. It is
celebrated during the month of October-November.
According to the mythology and history of
diwali it is believed that Dipawali is celebrated when Lord Ram came back to
Ayodhya after an exile of fourteen years. During the exile of fourteen years
Lord Ram along with Hanuman and his vanar sena defeated Demon Ravana and came
back to home along with Sita and Lakshman.
In other words Dipawali is celebrated because of win of good over bad.
Dipawali is celebrated twenty days after Dusherra. According to the history of
diwali it is believed that on the occasion of Dusherra Lord Rama killed Ravana
and it took him twenty days to return back home hence Dipawali is celebrated
twenty days after Dusherra.
Literally Dipawali means an array of lamps.
It is believed that when Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and brother
Lakshman after killing Ravana and completing their exile were welcomed to their
kingdom by lightening the whole kingdom with lamps. Diwalia is the most
colourful and enjoyable festival because it fills the heart of millions of
Indian with happiness and gaiety.
There are many different kinds of legends
connected with the occasion of Diwali. This festival is accredited for five
days and each day has rituals and myths associated with it. Dhanteras : First
day of Dipawali is called Dhanteras or Dhantryaodashi which falls on 13th
day of the month of Ashwin. This day is the most important day for business
class and rich people. According to the legend connected is that King Hima? son
would have died on the 4th day of his marriage by a snake? bite. On
the 4th day his daughter-in-law lighten the whole area with numerous
lamps and laid all her ornaments, gold and silver coins in a big heap at the
entrance of her husband? bedroom. She kept on telling stories and sung songs
whole night. When Yam came to take her husband he couldn? enter the room rather
sat on the heap of gold and silver and went on listening stories and songs. In
the morning he went back. Thus Dhanteras is also known as ?amadeepdaan

·Diwali:
is the 3rd day of festival of Dipawali when the Lakshmi-Puja falls
on the dark night of Amavasya. It is also known as Chopada-Puja.
·Padwa
: It is the 4th day of the festival. It is also known as Va
rshaPratipada and marks the coronation of King Vikramaditya. Govardhan-Puja is
also performed on this day.
·Bhaiya-Dooj
: It is the 5th and final day of Dipawali festival. This day
symbolizes the bond and love between brother and sister. On this day Yamraj
visited his sister Yami. His siter put auspicious tilak on his head and both of
them ate and enjoyed their time together. Yamraj later declared that on this
day any man who receives tilak from his sister will be blessed.
· In India, people start preparation for
Dipawali many days before the occasion. People start getting their houses
painted and decorated. According to the history of diwali it is believed that
by cleansing and lightening the house on the occasion of Dipawali Goddess
Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth would visit their homes. People buy new clothes, sweets and lighten
their houses with candles, diyas and lamps so as to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and
friends. People distribute sweets and chocolates amongst their friends and
relatives. Crackers and fireworks are burnt at night by the young and old on
the occasion of Dipawali. Precautions need to be taken while playing with
crackers and fireworks so as to avoid any mis-happening.
